I don't like the clichés of right and wrong in fashion, can and can't wear, but it is a fact that some pieces belittle us.
In order not to fall into the trappings of fashion it is necessary to know one's own body and furthermore to know oneself.
Why do I say that?
Because we've changed over time and a piece that we have been disadvantaged years ago may well be a friendly piece if we know how to make good use of it.
But, how to use fashion to my advantage?
Fashion is for real life, right? Based on this assumption, here are some points for using fashion to your advantage.
1 - Use your body size as a guide
My body changed immensely in the last 5 years. I gained a few ( Well..more than a few, more like lots of them). Read here if you want to know more.
But I was reluctant to accept that number in the label didn't look so good on me anymore and when I went shopping for a pair of pants I wanted a specific size to fit me but I had to take a larger one.
The first size fit, but it fits tight and it made the muffin top come out!
If I had been wearing the smaller size pants, not only I would be super uncomfortable but also would be highlighting exactly what I didn't want to accentuate. MY MIDSECTION!!!!
Being mindful of your body size means avoiding extremes both for less and for more, Clothes that leave you like you're wearing a potato sack is not flattering either.
2 - Seek comfort
Always prioritize comfort if you want to wear style to your advantage because there is nothing worse than being crammed into a garment that won't even let you breathe.
It also will compromise your elegance because it will limit your movements.
Fashion must give you the freedom not to make you a slave to a style, a number, a trend.
3 - Do not buy into trends
Trends changes constantly. So, even when you think you are wearing a style that is "IN" fashion, I can almost bet that another newer trend is out there, be careful.
Choose colors that you know won't get out of fashion fast, and pieces that can be reused by combining them with others, and don't buy multiple copies because you like how they fit you yet.
I like to first start with accessories, and recommended you to do the same, usually, accessories have the power of updating a whole outfit, and I feel is not as a big commitment as a garment is.
Far beyond fashion
The real-life fashion is key because you live in the real world, not in the fantasy world (although I see a lot of women on Instagram sipping rosè and eating macaroons in pink outfits a lot, and I almost believe that is real😉)
Us ordinary women get dressed to work, to shop, to run mundane errands, to show off to our friends (laughs), to improve our self-esteem, not to walk the red carpet.
So you need good style tricks that can make this relationship with fashion more friendly and not deprive yourself of A or B because of your height, body shape or coloring!
But I also don't want you to think that just because it's trendy you should wear it EVEN IF it meets the specifics of your body shape and etc...it needs to"fit" your values.
What I would not wear!
For example, UGG was the latest fad, I could not even think about wearing one (never did)
Would look good on me?
Well, it would look like it looked on everybody else...doll boots, but it does not fit with my values or my message.
If I wore it I'd be cheating on myself, I'd be a fashion victim, just reproducing, no longer being myself.
You want to imprint our personal style wherever you go, you should show off what you are and you don't want to be the same as anyone.
Fashion allows you that!
When you stop wearing piece A or B because you know what you like, or what represents you, you are going beyond fashion.
You're following your personal style!
