My style is only mine, there is a little bit here, and there, the places I went, the places I lived and my upbringing, finally, translating to who I am, NOT, what the fashion world wants me to be.
The drama of the perfect wardrobe
If you're looking for a perfect wardrobe don't start by looking through must have 10 items lists on blog posts or magazines, start by knowing yourself, know what looks good on you, what clothes you feel comfortable and happy with.
When you follow X or Z style rules, you'll get stuck with items that can only be used on people with a pear shape or a hourglass shape etc.., that will undermine your creativity, you will no longer be authentic, because the clothes that are perfect for X or Z keep you from discovering more of yourself, to follow your own instincts when it comes to dressing.
So should you ignore dressing for your body shape?
I think for some women these rules and algorithms can be a guiding tool, my issue starts when you follow it to a tee.
Dressing well doesn't mean wearing only clothes for hourglass, or triangle, or apple shape, etc..., being stylish means being authentic and feeling comfortable.
Imagine me telling Kim Kardashian she needs to balance her pear shape body with details on her tops. She would laugh, and tell me she paid a lot of money to look like this and that is her favorite feature of her body!
Isn't she right to love her curves and to flaunt it?
Who am I to tell her what is beautiful on her body?
Your style should not fit in a box!
Each clothes in your wardrobe should be communicating what you are, and this is not shown in a fancy store window, your true personal style is custom tailored to you.
Once you find what looks good on you, you won't keep that style forever. Times change, our measurements too, our likes and dislikes are not left out and we incorporate all these characteristics into the way we get dressed.
Your style will depend on it all, it will depend on your workplace, the places you like to go, the fabrics you feel comfortable, your favorite colors and your budget.
But above all, your style needs to reflect you!
Get inspired but dare to be you
When it comes to composing your style, you can rely in so many other styles, influencers you love, actresses, magazines, but your personal style is what you build, don't worry if there's no equivalent to you, just be authentic and escape the average.
I'll address in a another post how to start to build your style, but for now I can tell you it doesn't happen overnight, you'll need patience, self-analysis, self-knowledge and courage.
It's not easy being who you are, in a world full of copies, but believe me, it's very worth it!
